At Montessori House of Children we follow the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. She was the first woman to be trained as a physician in Italy, and through observation and experimentation she revolutionized the way we think about early childhood education. She found that all children have an innate desire and capacity to learn from a very young age, and that each child goes through sensitive periods where they quickly absorb information. The “prepared environment” fulfills the needs of order and independence that young children desire. They are able to move about the classroom and freely choose their own purposeful work. As Montessori teachers we respect the fact that each child learns at a different pace and unnecessary pressure is not put on the students to accomplish feats they may not be capable of at the time. The mixed age group in a Montessori classroom enables children to learn from and mentor one another, providing a positive experience for all.
For over 100 years the Montessori Method has been greatly beneficial for the education of children all over the world. Her philosophy has influenced many early childhood programs and helped develop a love of learning in countless children.
